Public access: has begun public access with “Phase 1” of our program and will be doing advanced public access (public transportation, doctor appointments, restaurants, movie theaters, etc) with “Phase 2” of our program.
Dogs background: Charlie was found wandering a field and brought to our local animal shelter. Charlie was already neutered but not microchipped. Due to his friendly nature and enthusiasm for training we were contacted to evaluate him and see if we thought he would be fit for our service dog program. Charlie has finished his service dog evaluation with “Phase 1” of our training and is ready to begin more advanced training.
How long it has been in training: since 9 months old (approximate age)
Who is it trained/being trained by: Nichole Warkentin with Black Cloud Obedience/Black Cloud Service Dogs
Method of training: balanced methods using pressure and release, shaping, repetition, and manipulating the environment to try to encourage the dog to make the correct decision so it can be marked and rewarded.
What they need to work on: Continued exposure to a variety of environments and handler engagement. Charlie has a great settle but can still get distracted in new environments. Due to his breed he does have a higher prey drive but is not unmanageable when training and can be easily redirected.

Our program consists of 3 main phases:
Phase 1- initial evaluation, foundational obedience, CGC.
Phase 2- advanced public access, basic task training, handler selection. Deposit is placed at this time along with monthly installments. New handler will be updated and involved in the progression of dogs training. Meet and greet at our facility in CA is highly encouraged at this time.
Phase 3- placement process to the new handler. We will bring the dog to their new home environment and work together on the transition from us to their new handler. Dog and handler will perform the CGCU/CGCA and public access test at this time. Continued support and advice will always be available.
